OPENING: Thursday, July 27, 2017 18:00-20:00
The exhibition presents a series of images that were taken in Southern Louisiana, in and around the towns of Vacherie and Thibodaux. They show typical dwellings that housed slaves owned by predominantly sugar cane plantations. These houses were built between the 1760s and the 1860s. The American Civil War (1861 to 1865) and Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 put an end to slavery in the U.S.A.
