In his very first concert on chromatic harmonica entitled “Toots’ Suite”, Normand Glaude pays tribute to Toots Thielemans, arguably the finest jazz harmonica player of his time.
The program will feature some of Toots’ signature compositions along with other songs that Toots’ musical soul forever touched. Norm will be accompanied by his long term friend Jean-Pierre Allain on piano, Scott Latham on drums, and will be trusting Tom Denison with the double bass grooves.
Norm is mostly known as a double bassist around Ottawa, but chromatic harmonica is his new artistic endeavour. He rekindled his love for harmonica, the very first instrument he played, when Tim Bedner approached him to contribute on his solo album project, Of Light and Shadow (2012), where Norm’s sound can be heard throughout the recording. You can also hear Norm as a guest on Jazz Winterlude (2013), Peter Liu’s Bamboo Groove (2015) and Sue Baker’s Reminisce (2016), to name a few.
