Parkdale Market open for the season next Monday!

Monday April 23rd, 2018

The Parkdale Market’s 94th season opens April 30. From dawn till dusk, seven days a week until the end of October, you’ll find a great selection of bedding plants, fresh produce and cut flowers. More than a dozen vendors ensure that the Parkdale Market serves as a vital link, connecting quality-conscious consumers, including many chefs, with numerous hard working farmers from across the Ottawa area. The Parkdale Market’s operations manager, Mathieu Blanchard, says the City of Ottawa is currently in discussions with a few new vendors who are interested in joining the market this year.

Certification and signage through Savour Ottawa for food crops and MyPick for bedding plants ensure that shoppers can easily identify local farmers selling only what they have grown themselves, versus those that have a partial or full offering of produce they are reselling on behalf of non-local growers. Here's a handy guide to when various crops are in season in Ontario.

Effective January 1, 2018, the City of Ottawa has transferred the responsibility of the management of both the Parkdale and ByWard Markets to a not-for-profit municipal services corporation, Marchés d'Ottawa Markets.  In the immediate future, there will not likely be many noticeable changes, however, the corporation is looking to develop the producer component of the Market and explore ways to make better use of the field house and spaces along Armstrong Street. Ottawa Markets looks forward to working with the community and the BIA as part of this process.
