Wellington West is home to a number of urban parks - little green oasis that give you a break from the hustle and bustle and let you sit back and relax among friends, or just by yourself. Parkdale Park is right in the centre of it all - half way between the O-Train and Island Park, the 417 and Scott St., nestled just west of Parkdale Ave. A community crossroads for young and old, with a stage, a playground, a wading pool and now an amazing series of local programming! There are lots of great events happening at the Parkdale Market/Parkdale Park this year! Grab your yoga mat, your lawn chair or just your appetite and stop in!
This is the inaugural year for yoga in the park, and so far the program has generated a lot of interest! Classes range from family, gentle, beginner and intermediate. And did we mention - they're absolutely free! Come be a part of it Ottawa! Saturdays Parkdale Park is the place to be for yoga - get your weekend off on the right foot!
Yoga is not the only path to enlightenment this summer at Parkdale Park. The Brewery Market will be holding one of their craft brew festivals in the park on Saturday, September 16th - coincidentally with Tastes of Wellington West - the neighbourhood's annual street party! Parkdale Park is an ideal venue for this event - with a separate play area for the kids, proximity to transit, and being right in the heart of it all, there are no excuses for not grabbing a friend and heading out to this fun-filled family event!
The Parkdale Market just celebrated its 93rd birthday in early July and the party is continuing today! The celebration was marked by the Annual Hintonburg Five K Run and One K Fun Run, designed to get the little ones up and on their feet!
Don't forget that the Parkdale Market has free short-term parking behind the stands to ease with your market errands! Enter from Parkdale Avenue and speak to one of thier staff wearing a yellow shirt should you need a few extra minutes.
On Saturday, August 26th Parkdale Park is going to the Dogs with Dog Movie Night! RSVP via their facebook page and you will be entered to win great doggie prizes! This is such a special event because it is the one night per year that on-leash dogs are allowed at Parkdale Park - so be sure to take advantage and come out to meet your neighbours! The movie has yet to be announced, but it should be a crowd pleaser!
On Saturday, July 22 Ottawa Chamberfest is hosting a really cool event starting at Parkdale Park! Here's the lowdown!
Chamberfest 2017 launches in Almonte with a two-day community celebration of art and sport: the Almonte Song Cycle Street Party. Audience members and cycling enthusiasts alike are welcome for a four-hour bike ride from Ottawa to Almonte, alongside the world class opera performers that make up the Bicycle Opera Project.
