Welcome Athena Green, the WWBIA’s new Administrative Assistant

Tuesday May 22nd, 2018

Here is a little Q&A to help you get to know Athena Green who started her new job with the WWBIA today. Please be sure to say hello when you see her in the area.

Q: What’s the geography of your life – past and present?
A: I grew up in Windsor, ON and moved to Ottawa in 2010 to study Communications at Carleton University. I fell in love with the green spaces and sense of community in Ottawa and decided to stay after graduation. I now live in Centretown, just a short bus ride away from Wellington West.

Q: What are some of your ‘must visit’ places in Wellington West?
A: I have many friends who live in the area so I visit often and one of my absolute favourite places is SuzyQ Doughnuts. I tell everyone I know about them and was thrilled when they moved to a bigger location. I also go to the Hintonburg Community Centre often, for their flea markets and craft sales.

Q: What appealed to you about working with the WWBIA?
A: I became interested in the inner workings of local business communities of Ottawa while volunteering at the Downtown Bank St. BIA. I am passionate about working with people and getting to know them on a personal basis; it’s a skill I am happy to put to use meeting everyone in the community.

Q: What Wellington West BIA event are you excited to work on?
A: As a self-proclaimed ‘foodie’, I am most looking forward to helping with Taste of Wellington. I have never worked on an event of this size before, and I am excited to collaborate with people and learn new things.

Q: What might people be surprised to learn about you?
A: I can read, write and speak Arabic and Korean. Though I do not consider myself fluent anymore, I am still able to hold conversations in both languages. I learned Arabic at my elementary school and I learned Korean during my year and a half there teaching English as a second language.
