Heading into its second great year – Westfest is back in Wellington West’s neighbouring burgh of Mechanicsville, and better than ever! This year’s fest is jam-packed with 150 artists over 3 days! With even more activities for the whole family to enjoy, you’ll know why Westfest has always been, and continues to be: Your Ottawa. Your Festival. And Always FREE!
It all gets started on Friday with headliner DJ NDN from A Tribe Called Red. He’ll be joined by dancer Rhonda Doxtator who promises to put on a spectacular show!
But be sure to drop in before the main event for tons of talented performers such as: Jah’Kota, LB, Mauro Scatozza and River Doucette – all appearing on the Thom Fountain Main Stage!
Then head up Wellington West hotsopt - the Elmdale Oyster House - for the official Westfest after party!
Saturday and Sunday the Napkyn Family Fun Area is open with fun galore for the wee ones. The space is open from 10 am to 10 pm, and will allow you and your kids to enjoy the vibes at Westfest.
Also in the Kids Zone will be Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization family programming featuring spoken word, song, dance and more! There will be bouncy houses, obstacle courses, games, educational art programming, workshops, crafts and more! In addition, there will be face painting and the World’s Greatest Balloons!
You’ll know you’re at Westfest when you spot the 30 foot tipi – part of this year’s newest addition to the festival – the indigenous pavilion. Filled with indigenous art, food and other authentic experiences, it’s a must see for this year’s fest!
The Westfest Food Court will be stocked with your fave Ottawa street food, while the Westfest Party Zone will have libations and more!
For performance art – see PomponMinoune transform from male to female representation through make-up, hair, duct-tape and oversized shoes. Then get your own groove on with hair tattoos, extensions, beard oil and more at the Salon My Place Cutting Shack.
Then on Sunday morning grab your yoga mat and head down to LaRoche for early morning yoga with Yogatown. Check out the live drawing performance from Syrus Marcus Ware or community painting with House of PainT. Then check out the Westfest Market filled with local vendors and artisans – open until 9 pm!
There is NO PARKING at Westfest so be sure to check out their website for the best way to get there from where you live. LaRoche is easily accessible from OCTranspo and the bike paths, and if you live in the Western downtown core, you can easily walk!
With so many great artists, musicians and more at this year’s festival – you have to stop by! See you soon.
