#1000Strings in Hintonburg Park
By BIA Admin on Jul 31, 2019 in Uncategorized.
On Saturday August 3rd at 11:00am, Ottawa Chamberfest brings together hundreds of string instruments to perform one piece of music that will create an all encompassing wall of sound, the likes of which have never been heard before in Wellington West and may never be heard again.
This performance has only been attempted once before, in 2015 at Young-Dundas Square in Toronto, and the results were epic. Our event here stands to be even bigger.
“THE SQUARE RESONATED WITH HUNDREDS OF INSTRUMENTS IN UNISON.
A TRANSCENDENT AURAL SPECTACLE.”
– LIVING TORONTO MAGAZINE
You won’t want to miss the fun in Hintonburg Park as Grammy-winning violinist James Ehnes, Carol Gimbel’s Music in the Barns, the Gryphon Trio‘s Roman Borys and Annalee Patipatanakoon, and a host of local string-player celebrities lead a mass string ensemble in a unique, participatory concert experience.

Written by award-winning Canadian composer John Oswald, Spectre was commissioned by the Kronos Quartet in 1990. The work combines live quartet with multi-layered overdub, creating the illusion of a 1000-piece string orchestra. With #1000Strings, the community joins forces to make that illusion a reality.
