The Merry Dairy began as an ice cream truck in 2012 with a goal to serve a super premium, original recipe, all natural ice cream called frozen custard in neighbourhoods throughout Ottawa. Inspired by some of the great frozen custard shops south of the border, The Merry Dairy offers “both” types of frozen custard – scooped midwestern style and softserve “Jersey” style. Five years later, we opened a shop at 102 Fairmont Avenue in Ottawa’s lovely Hintonburg neighbourhood and now offer three styles of hand-made original recipe premium ice cream: frozen custard (midwestern style), hard-scoop (premium ice cream) and soft serve (Jersey-style) custard as well as handmade Merry Pops, shakes and sandwiches as well as original-recipe vegan flavours. We don’t use any nuts or peanuts and make our scooped ice cream in small batches with a constantly rotating selection of new flavours. The shop is closed in January and the truck and two catering carts hibernate all winter until April, when they are ready once again to visit neighbourhoods or be booked for special events.
