The Streetcar & the Circus Tent. 100 Years of Wellington Village.

Join us for a special Jane’s Walk in Wellington West on Saturday May 4th at 2:00PM, as we begin to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Wellington Village. This walking tour will celebrate one of the most fascinating origin stories of our community.

May 2019 marks exactly 100 years since the Ottawa Land Association held their huge auction in a circus tent at the corner of Wellington Street and Holland Avenue, selling off one-by-one each of the lots in Wellington Village south of Wellington.

Join this walk to find out all the details on how Wellington Village came to be! You’ll hear stories, meet some local characters, and get a chance to see some photographs, maps, and artifacts that show how much the area has changed.

This walk will be lead by Wellington West BIA Executive Director, Dennis Van Staalduinen and local history buff Dave Allston. Dave is the curator of The Kitchissippi Museum, and author of the monthly Early Days column in the Kitchissippi Times newspaper.

Participants will meet in front of the Thyme & Again shop at Wellington West and Huron Ave North. From there, we go east a block to Holland, then west towards Island Park Drive. As a bonus, the walk will deliver you to the CUBE Gallery, where you can join the Jane’s Walk crew for a party to celebrate Jane Jacob’s 103rd birthday
