Our Donation to Daybreak Housing
To celebrate the Season of Giving, the Wellington West BIA has spent much of November and December raising money for Daybreak Housing, to buy their residents a new deep-chest freezer.
Located in a former convent on Piccadilly Ave., the Wellington West chapter of Daybreak has been in operation for over 20 years. They provide housing for women living on the fringes of society, many of their residents are suffering from severe mental illness, and addiction. The staff of just four employees at Daybreak manage over 40 full time residents living on site.
The women of Daybreak are in need of a new chest freezer, as their current unit is on its last legs and does not provide enough storage space for so many people to manage their food. At the resident’s request, we will be donating a brand new freezer for Daybreak in December.
We placed over 20 donation jars throughout high traffic areas of Wellington West from November 17 to December 6, to collect small donations. The support from our community during this fundraiser has surpassed all expectations, and we have collected $1057 in these jars. This generosity from the people of Wellington West is overwhelming, and will cover nearly the entire cost of the new freezer.
A special thanks to our top 5 donation locations, Metro grocery store, Giant Tiger, Thyme and Again, Ottawa Bagel Shop and Stubbe Chocolates.
