Remembrance Day in Wellington West
In the days leading up to Remembrance Day on November 11th we’ll be reflecting on 100 years since the end of the First World War, and the sacrifices of the men and women who have served our country. In addition to retailers throughout the area who are selling the traditional poppies in support of the Royal Canadian Legion, here are a few other opportunities to give and to reflect right here in Wellington West
Consider supporting local, veteran run businesses like, Les Moulins La Fayette where co-owner, Veda Rajole, served as a Canadian Armed Forces medic for 10 years. And Vimy Brewing Company, where brothers Mike and Kevin Sirko both served in the The Canadian Forces Naval Reserve.
At St. Vincent De Paul, the annual window display of war time objects is up again. These items are not for sale, but simply for honouring and reflection.
Strawberry Blonde Bakery have decided to donate sales from their Remembrance themed cookies to The War Amps. The cookies will be on sale until November 11th.
On November 10th at Parkdale United Church, Hypatia’s Voice and Parkdale United Church Orchestra have commissioned Canadian composer Christine Donkin to create a new work for choir and orchestra commemorating the centenary of Armistice. More info.
