terra20 Under New Ownership.

Meet Alexa Paz. You might recognize Alexa as the owner/manager of terra20 in Hintonburg.  In 2019, Alexa jumped onboard to open her very first franchise at 1130 Wellington St W. One of three total stores.

After braving the storm of the pandemic, like many business owners, Alexa looked forward to getting back on track in 2023. Despite high hopes, Alexa learned some shocking news. In May, she was told terra20 was dissolving and she had 3 weeks to continue running independently or close for good.

“My heart jumped out of my chest,” Alexa tells us.

She wasn’t alone in the fight. Alexa jumped on board with Kas of the Trainyards terra20 as the new co-owners of the brand and company; they took the challenge head on.

Over those three weeks, they worked endlessly to keep their businesses alive. Everything from the website development, suppliers, costs, and marketing. “I had to start from the ground up.” Alexa tells us.

The duo pulled the business on its feet, but there was still a long way to the finish line. From having full corporate support as a franchisee to becoming a co-owner of an entire company, brought a new set of challenges.

“We had to constantly explain why we didn’t have stock.” Alexa says as she explains the struggle of staying open over the major overhaul.

All the hard work came from a place of dedication to terra20. “I’m dedicated to providing sustainable products. I love what my store stands for and I want to continue to provide the community with cleaner and sustainable alternatives.”

Alexa looks forward to terra20 becoming a Hintonburg mainstay. “I think people associate terra20 with a ‘big box store’, but it’s not true. We’re Ottawa exclusive and it’s just the two of us,”
