WelliWednesday – September 21: The Keystrings and Mario Lauzon

Mid-September WelliWednesday arrives with twists and turns on folk in the direction of rock and blues

  • Every Wednesday!
  • Shows at 5:30pm and 7:00pm
  • Pat MacLeod Community Stage in Parkdale Park

Brought to you by the Friends of Parkdale Market, with artist funding from our partners at Ottawa Markets, the September 21 WelliWednesday lineup includes Mario Lauzon at 5:30pm and The Keystrings at 7:00pm.

5:30pm:

Mario Lauzon

Folk-blues singer-songwriter

I learned to play piano at a young age, and discovered in my teenage years that hitchhiking with a piano wasn’t easy. So, I taught myself guitar.  I was a lost soul. I studied trauma and addictions and began healing and journaling through music.

I work at a group home for men in Hintonburg.

7:00pm:

The Keystrings

Local alternative folk-rock band

The Keystrings started as a duo, playing covers and performing small shows in the corners of local coffee shops and bars. They started writing their own music and adding original songs to their live shows, amongst the ever growing repertoire of cover songs and mashups. One fateful day, they were offered to open at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield. Jill and Dan called on friends Jeff Cameron and Todd Charbonneau to help with the writing process and round out their sound. Their added energy is what gives the band that energetic, alternative rock dynamic that you hear today!

During the pandemic, while being locked in their own houses, the duo carried on performing over 40 online shows, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for different local establishments and charities. Now that venues are back open, they have gathered again to perform live, but most importantly, record and release two debut albums: A Mixtape For My Girlfriend (fun, energetic songs for a good time), and; Kiss Me, I Love You (duo-inspired songs easy listening).

Dan was born at the Grace Hospital his parents grew up on Foster Street. He’s lived in Ottawa his whole life and frequents the neighbourhood market, bars and shops.
