#WelliWindows Winners 2020
For the whole month of December, the merchants in Hintonburg and Wellington Village have been lighting up the streets and spreading joy during the most unusual GIVING Season most of us have ever seen.
A special thank you to our celebrity judges, Kitchissippi Ward Councillor Jeff Leiper, local resident and food expert Paula Roy, local blogger and Instagram personality, Julia Weber aka littlemissottawa, and our youth judge, Rachel V. They had the very difficult task of choosing the best holiday window displays.
And the winners are…
Best Overall Display
Winner: Flamingo Boutique
The judges were particularly impressed by the way that Flamingo Boutique carried the same theme through both their locations (they opened a second store recently at 992 Wellington Street West). The festive display was clean and elegant using pops of colour and effective lighting that captured your attention.
Honourable Mentions
Euphoria
Lot 7
Most Creative, Unique or Innovative Display
Winner: World of Maps
“The window was an unfolded map!” exclaimed Paula Roy. Fittingly, the window display by World of Maps inspired our travel dreams, and followed a trail from “2020” to “Something better”.
Honourable Mentions
Flock Boutique
Maker House
Small But Mighty
Winner: Kindred Shop + Studio
Kindred has a small window, but they filled it with a beautiful starry night, and a majestic stag, tall and proud coming out of the snow-filled field.
Honourable Mentions:
A Curated Nest
Arc of Life
Special Judges’ Category:
Take a Second Look Award
The judges added this award to recognize windows that deserved a second – and pondering – look to find the beauty in the fine details. Whether it’s gremlins coming out of gift boxes, letters addressed to H. Potter, or vintage toys, games and nutcrackers hiding in the garland, you really needed to stop and take it all in.
Winner: The Tattoo Machine
Honourable Mentions:
Morning Owl
Watson’s Pharmacy
Best Classic Retail Display
This award was added to recognize windows where the merchant displayed their own product with a fun and festive touch.
Winner: FAB Baby Gear
Honourable Mention:
Capital City Luggage
Best Use of Natural Elements
This award celebrates the windows that incorporated natural elements like shrubbery, garland and trees. These windows brought life to the street during the barren first month of winter.
Winner: Bloomfields
Honourable Mentions:
The Hintonburg Public House
Tooth and Nail Brewing Company
