Thanks to all our members and friends who made our 2020 Wellington West BIA Annual General Meeting on January 9th such an enjoyable success!

But in case you missed it, here are just a few of the exciting new initiatives we are working on for 2020 to help make the best business district in Ottawa even better this year.

Expanded Graffiti Removal Services

Through our partnership with Goodbye Graffiti, the BIA has already seen a dramatic decline in nuisance tagging through 2019. For 2020, we are pleased to announce complementary graffiti removal to all businesses, on all ground-floor faces of the building, from Island Park Drive to the O-train Line 2 track. If you spot graffiti on any commercial property in the area, please let us know at info@wellingtonwest.ca and we will have it taken care of.

Hintonburg Place Plaza Project

In late 2019 we launched public consultations for a new public space project at the Northeast corner of the Parkdale Avenue and Wellington Street West intersection. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the Hintonburg Place project before the early snowfall in November 2019, but the “Hintonburg” letters are currently being manufactured, and we will have shovels in the ground as soon as it thaws out this spring. BIA Boundary Expansion

To better serve the community, the BIA will be looking expand our boundaries this year to include new areas around all three LRT line 1 and 2 stations that are slated for future commercial developments. Bringing new properties into the Wellington West organization will help us facilitate all businesses working together for a common goal, and provide the BIA better resources to continue increasing the quality of events and services we bring to the community. The Parkdale Market

Beginning in 2019, through a partnership with Ottawa Markets, the Wellington West BIA took over responsibility for marketing and promotion of the Parkdale Market in Hintonburg, and we have announced that this successful pilot will continue and be expanded into 2020. For 96 years, this farmer’s market has been an important asset to our community. We want to help make the most out of the Parkdale Market and to make sure it continues to succeed for many more years to come.

Expanded BIA Staffing

To better serve the residents and businesses of our community, as well as increase our ability to market the neighbourhood to larger audiences locally, nationally and internationally, we have created a new position in the BIA staff. This year we have hired Kevin Falkingham to be our Marketing and Communications Manager. His experience and expertise in marketing will take us to a higher level in 2020.
