WOW5: Solstice Celebration – An All-Ages Interactive Arts Night on Gladstone

Jacqui Du Toit, Claudia Salguero and Kathryn Patricia Cobbler inspire everyone’s inner artist at the summer solstice WelliWOW at Prana Shanti Yoga Centre

On Friday, June 24th from 7:30pm-9:30pm, magic was made on the hidden, grassy oasis beside Prana Shanti Yoga Centre. Our latest WelliWOW saw three spectacular artists coming together to celebrate the summer solstice through their creative all-ages workshop and performance.

At dusk, South-African storyteller Jacqui Du Toit allowed us to shed negative energy by breaking a sweat during her upbeat movement-based workshop. Accompanied by drummer Denis Kashi, the pair led us through a journey uniting spoken word, visualization, breath-work and fitness to reconnect with our hearts and minds. Du Toit’s engaging storytelling and infectious positivity encouraged participants to let loose and shake off what was no longer serving them, with a smile.

Next, multidisciplinary artist Claudia Salguero staged interactive live painting alongside loop pedal violist, composer and educator Kathryn Patricia Cobbler. Like Du Toit, Salguero inspired attendees to let go of holding themselves back by taking part in the creation of a mural. While Salguero painted, audience members drew on individual shapes, cut by our neighbours at Paper Sign Man. Cobbler’s music provided a complimentary backdrop to WelliWOW goers tapping into their individual creativity. Her ethereal, layered sound inspired a calm and contemplative atmosphere.

To conclude the sunset gathering, Salguero added the audience’s creations to her mural and all together we admired the realization of community connectivity and collaboration.

Thank you to all of our invited artists for creating a comfortable space for everyone to express themselves!

We’d also like to extend an enormous thank you to our partners, MASC and Together Ottawa Ensemble, and our host Prana Shanti Yoga Centre, for working with us to make this event possible!
