Orpheus Musical Theatre premieres its 2022-2023 season in open-air on the streets of Hintonburg

Orpheus Musical Theatre‘s cast and crew never miss a beat! Thursday night’s unveiling of Orpehus’ upcoming 2022-2023 season, featuring Newsies, Memphis and Something Rotten, brought larger than life voices and theatrics to the main street! Closing down Fairmont Avenue just outside Orpheus’ front doors, Hintonburg passerby, patio-goers and eager theatre-heads got the best seats in the house for this unique preview.

The trailer of performances delivered snippets from the three shows, all of which capture diverse representations of revival; fitting for the theatre-house’s resurgence from lockdown. While all the musicals are well known, all three have yet to be produced by a local company of Orpheus’ calibre, a milestone that our neighbourhood theatre is ecstatic to celebrate with audiences down the street and beyond.

About Orpheus Musical Theatre

For many years, a familiar face caught the gaze of many who entered Orpheus House. It was
the face of James Alexander Smith, the founder of Orpheus Musical Theatre. This spunky little Scotsman brought his love of music with him from Dundee, Scotland in 1905. He first founded the The Orpheus Glee Club, which participated in its first concert on January 15, 1907.

Over the next few years, seeds were planted for a transition from a Choral Group to an Operatic Society with a view to presenting full-staged renditions of operettas, which were very popular during World War I. It took a few more years to fully organize a theatre group but during this time, the Choral group continued to assist with the war effort, giving back to the community even then.

Flash forward 115 years and Orpheus is preparing to deliver a fabulous new season—a season with something for everyone. So come, catch our spirit and prepare to be swept away!
